Is Your Faithfulness Enough?

faithfulness

The Lord rewards every man for his righteousness and faithfulness.

1 Samuel 26: 23

These are powerful words, but perhaps the most important concept of this phrase is found in the “reward.”  Every day we are “rewarded” or even blessed for our righteousness and faithfulness towards God.  We know that God will bless the righteous and faithful.

For it is written in Hebrews;

“God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.”

Hebrews 6:10

How have you been blessed today?  Sometimes we take for granted the little blessings that come our way each day.  The beauty of a sunrise, a call from a friend, a wave from a neighbor, or a virtual hug from a loved one.  These are perhaps some of the greatest earthly rewards you will receive.  Perhaps you have been a blessing to another without even knowing it.  Maybe you let someone cut in front of you at the grocery store, offered to bring a meal to a friend, or you helped shovel snow off a neighbor’s driveway.  Our faithfulness in serving Christ through our actions comes with a great reward of everlasting life.

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward.  You are serving the Lord Christ.

Colossians 3:23-24

Think about the way the Lord has blessed you for your faithfulness.  Don’t forget to praise and thank God for all he has done for you.  When I take the time to think about all the ways God has provided and blessed my life, I become more aware of how God is at work in my life.  How about you?  Are you seeing God at work in your life today?  Remember to remain faithful even if you don’t see His handiwork right away.  This is perhaps one of the hardest things to do, be patient.  God is at work, he is preparing a way even when we don’t see it.  As I write this, I’m reminded that I too need to be patient.

And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father,..

Colossians 1:10-12

Everyday I seek “great endurance and patience” to guide me.  The past year has been an incredible opportunity for learning to be patient in the midst of the unimaginable.  How have you endured patience this past year?  Can you see God at work and claim his faithfulness in your life?  We don’t know what tomorrow will bring, we must put the past in the past, today is all we have.  Are you making righteousness choices in your life today that will ultimately lead to receiving the inheritance that you are promised?

I’m trying and I hope and pray you are too.   We are called to be faithful everyday, and we will reap the rewards as we remain faithful in Him.   May the peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you today and always.
